It is usual for people to wake up a few times during the night. Older people often get up to the bathroom. But what about some other people? If it happens a few times a week, there may be a troublesome reason. And it can be called insomnia(失).
You may wake up, look at the clock and worry about your work. There may be stressful things on your mind. These feelings may cause a stress hormone(激素) in your body. If you worry that you can't sleep, it may make it harder to fall asleep. So, what can you do?
Do something helpful. If you are awake 25 minutes or more, get out of bed and do something quiet. Gentle stretches or breathing exercises might help. You can sit and read a book or magazine in weak light. Do not read on a smartphone or a tablet in the dark place.
Don't drink coffee after 2 p.m. Coffee can stay in your body well into the evening. Besides, nap(打盹) lowers your drive to fall asleep in the evening. Try not to nap late in the day. Nap no later than early afternoon.
Try to keep a routine schedule for sleep. There is a problem when you go to bed and wake up at different times. Studies have shown that irregular bedtime may lead to insomnia. The problem has to do with the sleep cycle of your body, called circadian rhythms(昼夜节律). They work on 24-hourcycles.
Benjamin West, the father of American painting, showed his talent for art when he was only six years of age. But he did not know about brushes before a visitor told him he needed one. In those days,a brush was made from camels'(骆驼) hair. There were no camels nearby. Benjamin decided that cat hair would work instead. He cut some hair from the family cat to make a brush.
The brush did not last long. Soon Benjamin needed more hair. Before long, the cat began to look ragged(蓬乱). His father said that the cat must be sick. Benjamin had to tell his father what he had been doing.
The cat's lot was about to improve. That year, one of Benjamin's cousins,Mr.Pennington, came to visit. He was impressed (印象深刻) with Benjamin's drawings. When he went home, he sent Benjamin a box of paint and some brushes as well as six paintings by an artist, which were the first pictures and first real paint and brushes that Benjamin had ever seen
In 1747, when Benjamin was nine years old, Mr. Pennington returned for another visit. He was amazed at what Benjamin had done with his talent. He asked Benjamin's parents if he might take the boy back to Philadelphia for a visit.
In the city, Mr. Pennington gave Benjamin materials for creating oil paintings. The boy began painting. William Williams, a well-known painter, came to see him work. Williams was impressed with Benjamin and gave him two books on painting to take home. The books were long and boring. Benjamin could read only a little, having been a poor student. But he later said that those two books stayed with him by day, and under his head at night. While it was likely that he understood very little of the books, they were his introduction to paintings. The nine-year-old boy decided then that he would be an artist.
Which would you give a boy for his birthday, a toy truck or a doll? If you choose the truck, well, you're not alone. Most people think that some toys are for boys and some are for girls. We might pick building toys or remote-control cars for boys and kitchen toys or dolls for girls. But why do we do this? Are boys and girls really born with different interests in toys?
No, they are not. Children start to show different interests in toys at age three, but only because at this time, they begin to learn about gender(性别) and to follow what others of their gender do. If you give a girl kitchen toys, she will think they are girls' toys because she sees other girls playing with them. But if you give a girl a toy car and show her a group of girls who are playing with cars, she'll play with the toy car and think it is a girls' toy. This "watch and follow" habit often becomes a rule for both boys and girls in choosing the "right" toys.
However, this rule can be bad for children. Different toys teach children different things. Dolls help with their early language use, and building toys are good for learning math and science. By playing with different toys, children can find out what they are interested in or what they are good at.
If they only play one kind of toy, they may lose this important chance. They may also get a wrong idea about what boys or girls are able to do. Some doctors worry that children may use the same kind of thinking when they look for jobs in the future. If they do, they may miss something more important than just getting a chance to play with different toys. They may miss many, perhaps better, chances in life.
Many people do not read the classics. Their reasons begin with the language being too difficult and end with the storyline being too far from our present life. Love for great books is not at first sight. It might take you some time to do it. We begin as strangers and become close friends at last. ___
Research, research, research. Before you turn to page one, do some digging. Researching the background can help you read difficult passages. The writer's experience, opinions, and historical background might help you make the connections you might not have.
___The order of the story and the plot(情节) are important in the same way.Make sure that as you read, you make a quick note of what happens in each part. This will help you bring the things you have noticed about the character, setting(场景), language and so on together. It's also a great help for you to retell the story.
___Great books are written by famous writers, many of whom are known for their excellent writing skills. Some of them use language in a special way to make stories work.
Remember: there is no right answer. There is no perfect way to read a classic text. Your goal as a reader is to find out what subjects and ideas are meaningful to you. ___Consider what you like, read with a purpose, and think independently. Even if your understanding of the work isn't quite perfect, it is still worthy!
A. It's your own reading, so just enjoy it.
B. So how does one start to read and love the classics?
C. You need to find out how the story begins and ends
D. Enjoy the beauty of language itself.
E. Pay attention to the plot of the story

Dear Li Hua,
How is everything going? Recently I had a fight with my parents. They made too many rules for me at home. I'm unhappy about them. For example, I am not allowed to read my favorite books until I finish my homework. Do you have any family rules? What do you think of them?
Actually, I'm a book lover. What about you? What kind of books do you like? What's your favorite book? Can you tell me something about it?
Looking forward to your reply!
Yours,
Sam
